Obama was smart, compassionate, moving - and tough. I wanted him to at least mention restoring the rule of law and eliminating torture. Yeah, I know these are downer topics. They would've bogged Obama down in the ugly morass of what to do about the war criminals who've eviscerated the Constitution. But still!
Otherwise, I thought Chris Matthews' drooling response to Obama's speech was about right (and I cannot believe I just wrote that).
So how can the Republicans counter this next week at their convention? They don't have any alchemy of their own.
Since I'm all Fauxed out, I bring you the shorter GOP response :

I saw David Brooks on PBS and he said he thought the speech was ... much too long. And not exciting enough. And he said he thought a lot of Dems must be very disappointed. WEIRD! In another universe?
And thx for watching Faux. I turned it on for five seconds and chickened out.
I just read that the Republicans might delay their convention if Hurricane Gustav strikes the gulf coast. A great counter to the "9/11" thing would be "heck of a job, Brownie" run on continuous loop from now until November.
Faux News? You crack me up! I guess it's better than CBN News. The other day I wanted to watch some TV news and I don't do that very often so I couldn't remember what was on what channel so I started flipping through and I stopped at what looked like CNN or whatever and it turned out I was watching Christian Broadcasting Network news. Arg!
Sugarmag, Faux News isn't my own original name - I wish it were!
Heather - I heard a similar rumor last night. No matter what happens, anything that evokes the Katrina aftermath is not good for the Republicans. But let's hope Gustav runs out of oomph before making landfall.
Hesperia - David Brooks *does* inhabit another universe. That's part of his problems. (I have to admit I only watched about 5 *minutes* of Faux, which was plenty, however.)
